Nationally published kitchen and bath designer, Karen Williams of St. Charles of New York, is often recognized for the unique and beautiful spaces she creates for her clients. Featured here is an impeccable contemporary design that is a little more personal—her own kitchen.
Karen’s skill is taking limited space and successfully incorporating many functional design details, which is one reason why this kitchen is so special. Customized cabinets maximize storage space, while a pullout pantry to the right of the banquet provides easy access to food items. Her clever use of a swing out panel creates additional storage behind the television. Tall cabinets divide the kitchen into sections and, along with a number of mirrored glass wall cabinets, create some breadth in the room.
The architectural feel of the room is enhanced by Karen’s successful use of a number of materials and finishes. The dark veneered material on the perimeter cabinets is fumed oak. It’s finished with a clear, rub and buff, polyurethane topcoat. The painted base and wall cabinets are powder-coated stainless steel and the frame-only doors have detailed glass inserts.
