Adding a little color to the Summer 2013 issue of Beautiful Kitchens & Baths is “Country Grandeur,” a brilliant, rustic design from Heidi Piron in Summit, New Jersey. Ever since the clients spent some time at an Italian countryside estate, they dreamed of bringing many of its design elements to their 1929 New Jersey home. Antique wood, rustic painting techniques, and romantic stone and tile work all contributed in making this Tuscan dream a reality.
The kitchen’s vibrancy emanates from the specific style and colors that Heidi and the client embraced. A weathered, blue finish with a red undertone flourishes around the kitchen perimeter. The island was crafted with rustic cherry wood, finished with a wiping stain, and then lightly glazed. The hood incorporates both woods and finishes superbly. These finishing techniques beautifully complement the old world tones and textures of the limestone flooring, quartzite countertops, and hand-painted backsplash tiles.
